Divorce Judge Hands 90% of Family Savings to Stay at Home Mum

A divorce judge has granted a woman who quit her career to care for her children the vast majority of the family fortune. Jane Morris left her career as a recruitment consultant so that her husband could continue his high-flying career for over 20 years.

However, following divorce proceedings from her husband, she was awarded over half a million pounds while her husband, a managing director at a software company was left with just 10% of the family fortune. The details were revealed after Peter Morris launched a legal challenge to the divorce settlement and a six-week prison sentence for failing to pay maintenance.

Speaking of the decision to award Jane Morris the vast majority of the settlement, the judge stated that Mrs. Morris should be granted more as she “needs adequate maintenance” because sacrificing her career had left her with a “low earning capacity in her middle fifties with rusty skills.”

Peter Morris had attempted to represent himself at the appeal, however, the judge deemed that he had to obtain a solicitor as his “liberty was at stake.”
